Just gonna copy and paste the backstory from the artist, because it's the best:
"i made the first few tracks because i enjoyed the irony of running an extremely expensive and hifi eurorack system into a damaged cassette in a $10 deck. i ended up liking the way it dirtied and saturated the sound, so i sent the tracks to [redacted] . [redacted]'s immediate response was that it sounded "vampiric," and that i might have been channeling the hammer horror i was watching. that thought stuck in my mind pretty thoroughly

i'm an extrovert. i get energy from other people. unfortunately i'm also fairly antisocial and depressed, and i work nights, so I spend most of my time starved of that energy. i recorded this album in the week after christmas, which added the isolation of the covid lockdown, the longer darkness of winter nights, and increased alienation from watching diurnal people be festive and social
when i thought about making vampiric dungeon synth, i wanted to reflect my own experience. vampires are also unwilling extroverts. they quite literally need other people to survive. most depictions of blood-starved vampires have them becoming mindless and beastial, but that seems like a mercy compared to retaining your mind while you starve in isolation

i decided i wanted to make an album about a vampire who's starvation makes them pathetic and weak, robbing even the darkness of its comfort and safety, until they paradoxically become attracted to the sun and ultimately give in, burning to ashes in the pursuit of a distant shimmer of light

i recorded about an hour of material over the span of a week. tried to push myself and embrace my playing mistakes and the defects in the tape, as well as drawing my own logo and cover despite not being a visual artist. i shelved it figuring i'd never release it, but six months later something possessed me to upload it"

A dreamy, beguiling, nostalgic dungeon synth quest through the shires. But, it's so much more than that. The LP incorporates some unique key changes, field recordings and a lot of Mort Garson style synth work. It sometimes reminds me of old 70's PG horror soundtracks.
